Find the Best Self-Storage Facility in Toronto for Your Needs: Our 7 Locations Compared

One of XYZ's seven storage facilities photographed from the outside

Choosing a storage facility based on price alone can be tempting, but a few other things are worth considering before you book. The right location depends on what you’re storing, how you’re moving it, and how often you’ll need access.

Our seven buildings have different features, including indoor drive-through or drive-in access, loading dock capacity, elevator dimensions, after-hours access, van rental, and waste disposal.

Indoor drive-through loading is available at Toronto Downtown, Toronto Midtown, and Toronto West. Toronto Dundas and Etobicoke Kipling offer indoor drive-in access instead. After-hours access is available on request at six buildings, and Etobicoke Lakeshore runs on our standard published hours.

We’ve put the details below to make it easier to compare our locations and find the one that works best for you. You can also find addresses and direct phone numbers for all seven locations in our locations directory.

Scarborough is a single-storey site of seven buildings, so you park at your unit door. Etobicoke Lakeshore, at 2256 Lake Shore Blvd W, is where we started in 1997, and it still holds the largest dock capacity of the seven.

Which XYZ Storage facilities have an indoor drive-through?

If you prefer to keep your vehicle and belongings under cover while loading, several of our locations offer indoor loading.

Facility Indoor loading Height clearance Route
Toronto West Drive-through, 2 bays 12 ft Both one-way. Enter south of Weston, exit north of Weston
Toronto Downtown Drive-through, 1 bay 10.3 ft Enter on Booth, exit south of Booth
Toronto Midtown Drive-through, 1 bay 10.2 ft One way. Enter at Laird and Millwood, exit at Canvarco
Toronto Dundas Drive-in 14 ft into the building A single indoor opening
Etobicoke Kipling Drive-in 14 ft into the building A single indoor opening
Scarborough Park at the unit door Open air Enter and exit through the same gate
Etobicoke Lakeshore Dock and elevator Dock access The first elevator is reachable from outside

A drive-through building has a separate entrance and exit, so a vehicle passes through without reversing. A drive-in building has a single indoor opening. Both keep the vehicle and the load under cover while you load, which you’ll appreciate in February.

Our highest clearance is at Toronto West, 12 ft across two bays. We want your move-in to go smoothly, so check your loaded height against that figure before you set off.

Which storage facilities near me have drive-up access for unloading?

Five of our seven locations offer covered loading, while Scarborough lets you drive directly to your unit door.

Indoor drive-through: Toronto Downtown, Toronto Midtown, and Toronto West all have indoor drive-through loading. Because these buildings have separate entrances and exits, you can drive through without reversing. This can be especially convenient when you’re using a trailer or moving truck.

Indoor drive-in: Toronto Dundas and Etobicoke Kipling offer indoor drive-in loading with 14 ft clearance into the building. This can accommodate a 26 ft moving truck.

Drive to the unit door: Scarborough is a single-storey facility across seven buildings, with vehicles able to park directly at the unit door. It’s a convenient option for larger, heavier, or awkward items that you don’t want to take through an elevator.

Dock and elevator: Etobicoke Lakeshore has five loading docks, with the first elevator accessible from outside. This can be particularly useful for business moves involving pallets, records, or several vehicles.

Which facilities have loading docks?

Facility Docks Detail
Etobicoke Lakeshore 5 The first elevator is reachable from outside, which suits pallets and records
Toronto Midtown 3 The first at 10 ft 2 in. Larger trucks and trailers use the furthest dock
Toronto Dundas 3 14 ft clearance
Etobicoke Kipling 3 14 ft clearance
Toronto Downtown 1 With an indoor hydraulic lift, for heavy single items

Toronto West offers indoor drive-through loading rather than dock access, and at Scarborough you drive straight to your unit door. Dollies are available at every building at no charge.

How wide are the elevator doors at each facility?

Our elevator doors run from 3.9 ft at Toronto Downtown to 10 ft at Etobicoke Lakeshore. A three-seat sofa is around 7 ft long and 3 ft deep, so it travels upright through the narrower doors and flat through the wider ones. If you’re moving a sectional, Lakeshore’s 10 ft door is the one to ask for.

Facility Door, W × H Car, W × D × H
Etobicoke Lakeshore 10 × 7 ft 10 × 6 × 7 ft, takes a sectional or a long table flat
Toronto Midtown 7.8 × 7 ft 7.8 × 10 × 7 ft, the deepest car of the seven
Toronto West 5.8 × 7 ft 5.8 × 10 × 7 ft
Toronto Dundas 4 × 7 ft 5.6 × 8 × 7 ft
Etobicoke Kipling 4 × 7 ft 5.6 × 8 × 7 ft
Toronto Downtown 3.9 × 7 ft 3.9 × 8.2 × 7 ft, takes boxes and flat-packed furniture
Scarborough Ground-floor access Ground-floor access

Hallways are 5 ft wide in every building. Scarborough gives you ground-floor access to every unit, which is what you want for anything long or heavy.

Which facilities are temperature controlled?

Temperature-controlled storage is available at all seven. Toronto Downtown, Toronto Midtown, Toronto West, Toronto Dundas, Etobicoke Kipling, and Etobicoke Lakeshore are temperature-controlled throughout, and if you book at Scarborough, make sure to request temperature-controlled storage.

It’s worth asking for if you’re storing upholstered furniture, electronics, documents, or anything wooden over a winter. What temperature control actually prevents is in how secure is self storage in Toronto?

Where is after-hours access available?

Standard access at every building runs 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

After-hours access is available on request at Toronto Downtown, Toronto Midtown, Toronto West, Toronto Dundas, Etobicoke Kipling, and Scarborough. Requests go in on the day, up to two hours before closing, and approval comes back by email.

Etobicoke Lakeshore runs on our standard published hours, and everywhere else 24-hour access comes with a Value or Premium unit.

Full details, including the gate and the app, can be found here: storage access hours across Toronto, Etobicoke, and Scarborough.
