Making Space for a Home Gym
A home gym could mean different things to different people depending on whether you live in a 600 square foot condo unit in the city or a 5,000 square foot home in the suburbs. However, with the strict lockdown measures in place for Ontario, you may be finding yourself cooped up in your home and not comfortable with going outside to exercise as often. If one of your goals for the new year happens to be exercising more and you are limited by your living space, you may find yourself having a hard time accomplishing that. We at XYZ Storage understand the struggle of living with limited space and want to help you change that.
Decluttering can be an important first step to making and creating space for setting up a home gym. This can be especially true for those of you that live in a tiny apartment or condo with limited space available. If you are in that situation, you can create a temporary work-out space for yourself by decluttering your home. Go through all of your belongings and decide if this is something that you wish to keep, sell, donate, throw away, or put in storage.
Getting Creative with the Space
It’s time to get creative! Sometimes you just have to make do with the space you do have. If you want to temporarily make space to work-out one day, you could shift your living room couch against the wall or move your coffee table into another room. However, if you are fortunate enough to have an empty room or are able to clear out an entire room then the space is all yours to work with. You could turn your garage, attic, spare bedroom, or basement into a home gym. After that you could add all the equipment you may need to begin or to continue your fitness journey.
If you plan on turning your basement into a home gym, you may find our blog post: Cleaning Your Basement: Where to Start? helpful on your journey to creating your personal home gym.
Tonnes of Storage
Invest in tonnes of storage as it can be extremely helpful for those of you that do not have a lot of space to work with. You could buy furniture that has extra storage. For example, a couch that has storage space to store your yoga mat, resistance bands, etc. How about a coffee table with some hidden storage space? Large containers that could easily be put away could work too! Try your best to take advantage of any vertical storage options so that you can save space. The goal is to maximize the amount of storage in your home so that you could easily put your equipment away after a good workout.
Still lacking the space to create a permanent or temporary work out area in your home? You could consider renting a storage unit for the time being to store some of your belongings. Self-storage can also help you create a more permanent space to work from home. If your temporary makeshift workspace you made for yourself is not cutting it anymore.
